2009 was a year of celebration for The Changarawe Project. In September we marked ten years since the opening of our pre-primary school, which started with two small classrooms and 22 students. Now, we have a school with three light and airy classrooms, an office, a playground, and a small caretaker's house with a staffroom and storeroom attached. We employ 12 local people and have a regular stream of 100 children passing through the Zawadi ('gift') School for two years each.
In addition, through the Nigel Lloyd Fund, we provide the entire education for 108 orphaned children; help 28 grandparents to support their orphaned grandchildren through light employment and a club; run a micro-credit for 150 people each year; and have an expanding textile project. Thank you to all our wonderful supporters over the last decade - you have made all of this possible.
The progress of the Zawadi ('gift') school and The Changarawe Project can be followed through the set of historical newsletters available below.
